Something I Forgot to Mention…

(Admissions Consultant)

It has been a busy month for me, but it felt good to have finally finished the last set of Oxbridge interview training courses for the 2021-2022 cohort. They could not have gone better, and I realised I forgot to mention something really important…

As a UK university admissions expert and a Cambridge graduate, it was a real pleasure to share my professional and personal insights into the interview process with my students – there are lots of myths about the interviews, but as an Oxbridge insider, I could confirm that they are just subject-specific exchanges after all. The interviews also serve as a taster of the small-group teaching systems that Oxbridge take great pride in (“supervisions” at Cambridge and “tutorials” at Oxford), and the panel would take this chance to see if the candidate thrives in such environment. Interviews are a big part of the Oxbridge application and that’s the very reason why here at the Edge, we have devoted so much time and effort in tailoring our Oxbridge Interview Prep on an individual basis.

All I wanted to say is a big thank you to all the subject-matter experts, who helped to put together a series of engaging mock interviews and recreate the actual interview settings at Oxford and Cambridge. There were moments during the mock interview when I could hardly hold my joy as they reminded me of the wonderful time in Cambridge. I would also like to thank our support staff, who kept abreast of the latest COVID-arrangement and adapted our sessions following the specific Oxford/ Cambridge requirement, providing our students with the best preparation through challenging times.

Last but not least, I would like to congratulate all my students who attended the interviews – being invited to an Oxbridge interview is an achievement on its own merits, giving the large number of applications the universities receive every year – well done! It was a delight to receive your compliments and to learn that our training significantly upped your actual performance. Excellent teaching is at the heart of everything we do, and there is nothing more satisfying than knowing we do make a difference to the admissions journey of our students.  The results will be announced in January and while I have every confidence in you, my advice to all current and future Oxbridge interviewees is to be grateful for the unique experience. When one has the priviledge to be interviewed by the world’s leading institutions, there can never be a bad outcome.

That’s all I wanted to share. Wishing you a wonderful week, and an early Merry Christmas!
